It Pays to Ask Why – 1st Conversation

January 2017

Regardless of our ethnicity and regardless of our religious or spiritual understanding, millions of us find it more difficult than ever to give any text on any Creation theory any real traction.

My endeavour, now, is to present across several articles some of the mind-meanders that have kept me focused on my current manuscript, the 3rd of my Stepping Stones to the Top of the World Series.

I would like them to read as loosely structured texts, as a stream of consciousness, perhaps, focused on the exploration of what Man and Woman have co-created alongside each other from time immemorial until today, as 2017 dawns over the horizon.

I would like these texts to engage us, together, in loosely structured conversations of the sort, you and I, dear Reader, might have if … we did hang around the same cafe and park 🙂

As you well know, conversations are not linear.

Our impulses, our beliefs, our thoughts are not linear.

Our energies are not linear.

Life is not linear either.

All that has been achieved historically, all that is happening within our communities and in our homes has never been linear.

All that we ‘think’ we have chosen to do and to say – even today – is as interwoven within itself as the many strands of a Celtic Endless Knot.

Why, indeed?

Very understandably in current times driven by science and technology, regardless of our ethnicity and regardless of our religious or spiritual understanding, millions of us find it more difficult than ever to give any text on any Creation theory any real traction.

Having said that, Science is equally unable to provide satisfying answers to those of us who yearn to know not HOW but WHY, really why, when still in utero, our foetal body acquired its particular DNA.

Why, really why, did apparently random bursts of hormones shape the blueprint for our neural net as they have?

Why, really why were our bone and organ structures assembled as they were?

Why, really why, was the foetus we once were engineered as female or male – or as a hybrid?

Why, really why, was our unique and recognisable face – our emblem to the world near and far – templated to morph from babyhood to adulthood in the way that it has?

Why, really why, do we have a soul, as is generally accepted by each of the world wisdom traditions?

After all, most of us do so little with her – and for her – beyond mentioning her in specific prayers – mostly those on the themes of the death of our physical body and, oddly, of her redemption.

Why, really why, do we all have an energy field – and what, really what, is its purpose and content?

Why, really why, do men and women alike have a specific ‘authentic’ energy that is as karmically ordained as [and corresponding to] our gendered selves – no differently than all the other elements that define both our physical and our spiritual selves?

Humbly Does It

Science has already taught us that our physical eyes are only able to perceive vibrations upside down as they are picked up by the light-sensitive inner coat of the eye.

We have been taught that each time a picture is taken, what we think we ‘see’ actually falls upside down on the retina at the back of our eyes.

Just as the lens forms images, our brain interprets the vibrations and assembles the data into a form we, individually, find coherent.

With this in mind, it should not be too much of a stretch to accept as well that what we perceive through our senses also comes to us somewhat adulterated.

So, for now, here, in my new series of hubs of which this is the first, let us try to modestly make some meaning of what is mostly beyond anyone’s true understanding – even that of religious scholars who, themselves, regardless of their degree of conviction can share nothing more than their own interpretations – their personal convictions.

In short, for those of us who do not accept Randomness of Life as a worthwhile theory what, then, triggered all the elements that came together to form the persona we were cast to be – from birth to death – pre-determining to a great extent many of the very crucial aspects of our lives including our rewards, tests and challenges … before we were even born?

Now Show Me Your Glory

Let us, if only for a moment, go along with an alternative esoteric understanding of Exodus 33 and play with the idea that, we, humans, have been created in the shadow of God’s Back.

Then, guided by our open mind, let us see where the exploration of the next three scripture extracts might take us.

Exodus 33 – 18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”

19 And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence.

I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”

21 Then the LORD said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock.22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.

23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back, but my face must not be seen.”’

Let’s Give Him Some Magic Cred

Realistically speaking, the human eye cannot discern the ultraviolet or infrared bands in a rainbow. The human eye cannot look into the sun – even its reflection on the water is too often dazzling.

The spark of True Light is hidden away from our sight. Only its reflection can be perceived. So, one interpretation of Creation is that the first males and females were created in the shadow of God’s Back.

As odd as it might seem to us who are unable to see our own face unless it is reflected at us, who can only shape and interact with what is directly in front of us – and within arm’s reach – surely God can be credited with more ‘magic’ about Him than any of us mere mortals.

In The Image of God

One of the most enduring Judeo-Christian beliefs is that we, humans, were created in the ‘Image of God’.

The import of this concept, particularly in the 21st century, can only be left to personal interpretation for, regardless of their rank and knowledge of sacred and esoteric texts, and regardless of their personal authority, though they are passing on the knowledge and wisdom of their religious traditions, no rabbi, prophet, iman, priest, nun or pope – past and present – could do more than share his or her personal belief on the matter of Creation – as on all other matters concerning the Source of all Creation and the After Life.

Still, if one wishes to go along with the narrative of Creation, as declared in Genesis 27, [Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being], one can only assume that God did not breathe life directly onto the lump of clay to which He intended giving human life.

Had He done this, it is forever in a state of ‘blindness’ that these first humans would have taken their first breath – blinded by the magnificence of God’s Light. Withstanding the blinding rays of True Light, God’s Face is understandably well beyond the physical capabilities of any human eye.

It is said that True Light is hidden in darkness. Perhaps it is why it is through the black pupil that we see light – not through the white of the eye.

Exodus 10:21 – Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness spreads over Egypt–darkness that can be felt.’

Although darkness was, then, considered ‘the second to last plague,’ darkness and light being two sides of the same coin, what if darkness were pure matter?

Impenetrable darkness and extreme light force people to grope around like blind ones. It is logically assumed that the more light there is, the better able we are to see, but that is true only up to a point.

In reality, human eyes cannot see beyond the bony frame of our eye sockets. While the physical eye is blinded by darkness, however, the inner eye is able to perceive lights within darkness.

At the human level, perhaps, this ability can be compared to the faculty a foetus has to see within the darkness of the womb, thanks to the light-sensitive cells on the retina, the rods and cones.

As long as what we experience is perceived in its state of reflection – stamped upside down, it is unintelligible, incomprehensible and irrational.

In order to understand what is happening in our day-to-day, near and far, we need to reverse the order of what we experience.

Hypnotic Reality?

The reflection mode is a hypnotic state that prevents a clear vision, a clear understanding of the moment. It is a state in which we see reflections wherever we go, whether these reflections are of persons, animals, plants or objects.

As it is, when we are face-to-face with another being, it is as if we, in fact, we’re looking in a mirror and saw a flipped reflection: our right side is the left side of the being standing in front of us, and our left side is their right side.

This condition, as odd as it is, prevents clear communication between individuals because whatever we see or hear is understood [mostly incorrectly] according to our limited frame of reference and interpretation.

In order to know clearly what the person facing us thinks or feels, we need to stand exactly where s/he stands, literally ‘in their shoes’ – not in front of them – otherwise, we only perceive a reverse image, our reflection – not the person, per se – and certainly not their true thoughts.

Until we master that little trick of the mind, we go on living in an alternate reality.

Warriors We Are

Courage comes from our willingness to trust and be humble little blind mice in a maze. No idea in which direction lie the coveted morsels of cheese. No idea behind which are hidden the punishing electrical pulses.
